To provide more context here:

Google Consent Mode V2 is a significant update to Google's tool that enables the communication of a website user's cookie consent choices to Google tags. The key points are:Google Consent Mode V2 was introduced in late 2023 to align with the new Digital Markets Act (DMA) that goes into effect in March 2024. It is an essential tool for businesses to ensure their digital marketing and advertising efforts are effective and compliant with privacy regulations.12The main updates in V2 are the addition of two new consent parameters:

  1. ad_user_data: This determines whether personal data can be sent to Google services for advertising purposes based on user consent.34
  2. ad_personalization: This governs the use of personal data for activities like remarketing, based on user consent.34

Google Consent Mode V2 provides two implementation options:

  • Basic consent mode: Blocks Google tags from loading until the user interacts with the consent banner. No data is sent if the user denies consent.5
  • Advanced consent mode: Google tags load by default with consent denied, then update based on user interaction. This allows for more detailed data modeling when consent is denied.5

Implementing Google Consent Mode V2 by the March 2024 deadline is mandatory for businesses operating in Europe and the UK to maintain effective data collection and advertising capabilities.3In summary, Google Consent Mode V2 is a critical update that enables websites to comply with privacy regulations while still collecting valuable data and running effective ad campaigns.

--------

In summary, while the EU has not provided a specific opinion on Google Consent Mode V2, the tool's design and functionality are in line with the EU's regulatory framework for data protection and digital market fairness. This alignment suggests that Google Consent Mode V2 is a response to the EU's regulatory environment, aiming to ensure compliance and protect user privacy.

As far as I can tell only Google is using this, and it seems quite specific to collecting personal information so that Google can target the user better with Google Ads and marketing.

---------

Besides yourself JD no one has raised this as far as I'm aware, so it doesn't seem to be a headline requirement from the Affino community.

If this becomes more of a priority then we will look to implement core Affino support for it.

In the meantime there may be ways of doing so directly through Google Tags etc. but this is not an area where we have investigated to-date.

Affino has a mechnism in place which in many ways supersedes this in any case you you can set up the Google Tags script to only be included if users Accept 3rd party cookies in Affino. So that may well already address this requirement.
