Hi there,

We recently worked with a Google Analytics charity that helped us improve the clarity of our Google offering. They suggested we make the below change as soon as possible, so please can you action - the attached image provides clarity. Apparently it should be quite a simple change to make.

Currently the GTM snippet (yellow box) is in the tag of the HTML, it'll need to move into the (red boxes) across all pages. Usually there is an option within the CMS of your website to do this, whether it's editing the theme file, HTML or adding a "snippet". If you know who implemented initially, it'll be easiest to check with them and find out how it was initially added to the body.

Thanks

Ioan

We will look into this and see what Google now recommends, and how it's being adopted.

If it goes against Google's recommendation then in the mid to long term they might penalise you if we do make this change, even if it's a win in the short term.

Hi Markus,

We worked with some experts on GA4 who believe it should help us.

Thanks very much.

I also posted this back to the client:

----------

A quick check on Google instructs you to put it in the head, so putting it in the body is likely to cause issues sooner or later.

It's not clear why you would be advised to do so.

We are looking into it in any case, but maybe ask the agency why they are seeminly going against Google's advice on where to place the tag.

At least it's against what Google surfaces when you search on it on Google.

I think the way we might approach this is to give options on header / body.

In any case post back your findings and we can review a route forward, if we should be changing this.

Our GTM tag is also in the body when it should be placed in the head as Ioan is requesting.

Hi Markus,

I might be getting confused, but I think the request is to move from the to the ...not the other way around.

From the initial image I provided, it seems the GTM is in the and needs to be moved into the .

Thanks,

Ioan

The above posts seems to have removed my writing because I used greater than/less than signs.

As Steve said, the request is to move the GTM from the body to the head.

Thanks,

Ioan
