T87960 > How does Affino filter for bots when capturing message click stats?
30 Apr 2024 14:57

Affino performs the following checks when taking into account clicks that stem from messages:

1.- Check the Bot Access Profile

The Bot Access Profile allows you to whitelist or block a user or bot (i.e. Google Bot) based on their IP Address or User Agent.

Affino continues with additional checks if the user agent or IP Address are not blocked.

2.- Globally whitelisted IP’s and User Agents

Affino itself, not your local instance, checks if the IP or User Agent was whitelisted. If not, then we continue with additional checks.

3.- Barred Addresses

The Barred Addresses screen displays a list of barred IP addresses, these correspond to users that have gone over their login attempts limit.

If the IP address making the request is not barred then Affino continues with additional checks.

4.- AbuseDB

Affino also checks if the IP is flagged by AbuseDB, which has a 75% confidence rate when deeming an IP as nefarious.

If the Record Count for an IP is 0 then Affino continues with with additional checks.

5.- IP is flagged as a Bot

If an IP or User Agent is not on our Bot List, that is, they are deemed as a bot, then we continue with additional checks.

6.- Final conditions for checking

  • If there are up to 3 clicks from same user within 1 minute on the same link - count as 1 click
  • If more than 3 clicks come from same user within 1 minute on the same link - discount all clicks for this user on this message
  • If a request is "broken" (no MessageCode, an incorrect or missing UserUIDCode, no entry in the DB for requested link, etc) it will be sent to a  400 error page
