App Bar Guide

The Application Bar is available for those that have an Admin role on your site.

This allows them to access the Control Centre, which is also known as the back end, and helps them troubleshoot the page that they are on.

For example:

  • Is the article, section or channel bound by security?
  • OR
  • What skin is this page using?

The Application Bar has 7 tabs, each of which can expand and collapse.

The App Bar

The App Bar is located at the bottom, left hand corner on the display side.

Note: it will only be present if you are logged into your instance and have the required security.

The Main tab

This tab has a list of links that helps you to shortcut straight to the functional areas of the control centre.

Those functional areas are:

  • Analyse
  • Commerce
  • Custom,
  • Dashboard
  • Promote
  • Publish
  • Security, Settings
  • Social
  • Structure

There is also a link to your To-Do Lists and a LogOut button.

The Content tab

This tab reflects the site structure in which the page that you're looking at is situated on your site map.

You can see the articles Zone, Channel, Section and the Article itself.

You can also see which configurations are in place on this page, these are also known as Profiles.

This helps you to troubleshoot those profiles and behaviour of the page.

Use the Orange Pencil button to edit any of the items:

You can also copy them using the Copy button:

- in case you want to create a similar page.

The Design tab

From this tab, you can see which Skin this page (and its channel) are using, you can access them directly if you need to edit it or copy their Design Objects or perhaps tweak the Design Style.

You can also see any related CSS or create it using the + button.

After you edit any of the elements, remember to update the Zone Skins using the button down below.

You can also change the 'Add a New Comment' label for the Comments and Rating area:

The Security tab

You will find this tab very useful because it shows whether this page is secured, together with its Channel and Section.

The orange pencil button allow you to edit each item, taking you to the article, section, channel or zone detail screens.

The Switches tab

This tab allows you to turn On or Off different functionalities from your session and the page.

Cache

Use this to turn the cache off or on. This is useful when making changes and you want to see the results instantly.

Moving forward, you will always see the latest version of your site.

Design Script

A Design Script is a custom script that runs on your site.

For example, if this page is having performance issues like slow loading, then you can turn off any Design Script from your site to see whether this is causing the issue.

Custom CSS

You can turn this off to check whether any custom CSS is causing any issues with your styling, for example: your fonts not loading properly.

Live Design

By turning this on, you will be able to access your Design Element Properties and Content straight on the page, without the need of going to the Skin and the Design Centre, which are located on the backend.

The Generate tab

Our next tab is the Generate button.

Is not a tab as such, but a button that allows you to generate the skin using the latest changes made to it.
