Introduction:

Affino enables you to create podcast libraries and listings using the new Podcast Episode listing and detail templates.

The podcast episode listing provides a great showcase for the podcasts, with the ability to play any episode and have a sticky player at the base of the screen.

The podcast plus each episode can have its own artwork and sponsors, including a background header image for the podcast itself.

Drilling down into each episode will display the full details, comments and ratings, previous / next episode navigation, together with the ability to socially share the episode and more.

When the listener scrolls down to view the comments, the audio player jumps down to the base of the page so that it always remains on screen.

Hierarchy

It is necessary to create two channels in order to have the Library, Series and Episode pages.

1.- The first channel will act as your main library. It will display the thumbnails and links of all the series of podcasts that you create.

An example of a main library channel is the Podcast Library.

2.- The second channel will be for each individual series.

The resulting section generated from the second channel will display the thumbnails of any given series of podcasts. Inside every series there is a collection of individual podcasts /episodes.

An example of a series section is the Affino Weekly Podcast.

3.- Lastly, the media items (displayed at the bottom of the section) will be displayed in a similar fashion as articles. These will appear as individual episodes.

An example of an episode/podcast is Episode #3

In order to create a Podcast Library (such as this one) you will need to perform the following steps.

Create the main library channel

This will be the first of two channels that need to be created.

1.- Create a new channel of type Media Library:

2.- Select the Media Template as Podcast:

3.- Select the Default Media Template as Podcast as well:

4.- Fill in all the default fields.

Note:

  • On the Standard & Media Items (Detail) panel you can opt to select Show Bookmark (Detail) to display the bookmark icon on articles and media items.
  • Bookmark icon on the podcast detail screen:

5.- Save.

Create the series channel

The next channel will be your series channel.

The corresponding section from this channel will display each series and contain within them all individual episodes/podcasts.

1.- Create a new channel of type Media Library

2.- IMPORTANT: Select the main library channel (created beforehand) as this channels’ Parent Channel.

3.- Select the appropriate Media Template and Default Media Template (Podcast)

4.- Fill in all the default fields.

5.- Save.

The series section

This is the section generated by the previously created channel.

It will need to have its Presentation Style set as Podcast Listing (similar to an article listing):

The section also allows for companies to be set and listed as Sponsors.

This is done by selecting the account from the Sponsor Account field.

You can also add a link to the sponsors website via the Sponsor Link field.

Example: Octo Tech

Individual Episodes/Podcasts

Each episode/podcast is a media item in Affino.

To create a podcast, you will need to upload the audio file to the appropriate media library, together with the Thumbnail and Main Image.

The Thumbnail will be displayed on the episode listing, the Main Image will be displayed within the individual podcast detail page.

At the bottom of the section you will find the Media Items option:

Upload your individual podcast/media items by going through the steps.

Once finished you will have an individual podcast created as a media item:

In this case, the uploaded media item will go to the series channel.

Add a Thumbnail and Main Image to your podcast, together with the Main Body text.

Once finished, your podcast will be listed as part of the series and available:
