Affino 5.5.11 Release

This release sees the further refinement of many management interfaces. It also sees the introduction of numerous minor enhancements which together add up to a more refined experience.

 

The focus for the team continues to be on improving the user experience and smoothing out the experience on all aspects of Affino. There are around one hundred further fixes in this release, many of which resolve new issues which have arisen by the new generation of browsers, in particular IE8 and Chrome 3, as well as resolving the remaining cloud-based issues.

 

Upgrade Guidance

 

This is a seamless update from 5.5.10. When upgrading from earlier releases please check the release notes on the previous releases.

 

It is essential to re-generate Skins with this release as numerous optimisations have taken place in terms of the generated code. It is also recommended that you run the System Update option, followed by, Re-Initialise Site, Design Element Update and Skin Update.

 

Key Enhancements

 

New Media Scroller – we have introduced a new dynamic ‘infinity scroller’ in the media library in place of the previous Flash media scroller. It means that there is now much more rapid access to media files with the experience closer to mainline video sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.

 

Workflows – numerous new options to refine the content entry process, it is now possible to tailor the content entry further for each content type and audience

 

Other Enhancements

 

Arabic (Beta Two) – updated Beta version of Arabic in Affino

 

CDN – Flash files can now also be served through CDNs, this will have a major impact on the ability to offload bandwidth to CDNs and reduce bandwidth charges on high volume sites

 

Content Subscriptions – it is now possible to remove content subscriptions from individual users on their community management screen

 

Dynamic Forms – reduced the number of steps presented so that the acknowledgement screen is no longer counted as a step

 

eCommerce - cost modifier no longer required for catalogue attributes; it is now possible to copy Coupons and Discounts; improved usability when deleting and editing catalogue items

 

eTests – improved test listing; added new filter attribute so that tests can be filtered by creators; improved ability for Google Analytics to track eTests; improved eTest creation with default points allocated and improved labelling; added Irish as a new option

 

Groups – simplified group creation by adding new default options for creating groups

 

Media Embedding – it is now possible to turn off the ability to embed content from Media Libraries without having to do so on each item

 

Security – added new Header IP Address tracking when using pre-caching servers

 

Suspend Automation – new switch for putting sites into a low-resource state by removing all the automation tasks; also prevents backup or test site instances from sending out unnecessary emails

 

Video Player – new options to fade out the control bar and auto-play videos; improved presentation of video wall and video scroller

 

Fixes

 

Browse Menu Design Element – back button now works consistently on pages with back buttons

 

Comments and Ratings – now displaying the correct ratings on media items

 

Content Management – selectors made more ‘zone aware’ meaning that users can only move content within the same zone; improved content deletion process, reducing the potential for user error; simplified content deletion; cleared up numerous interfaces to simplify content entry; the live viewing of secured

content now works reliably

 

Content Subscriptions – critical fix to content subscriptions making this an essential Affino update

 

Design Scripts – now display reliably in Design Objects / Skins; new window script re-enabled

 

Detailed Media Section – fixed multi-display issues resolved; users now prompted to fill out all required settings on the design element

 

Detailed Standard Section – no longer errors out when used to highlight ecommerce items; now differentiates between the normal and heading text by having the correct styling re-assigned

 

Documents – listing formatting improved, now works on narrow pages

 

Dynamic Forms – improved error handling on the forms

 

Dynamic Menus – now display reliably irrespective of how the underlying channels and sections are secured

 

eBusiness Workflows – there are no longer any issues with assigning users to eBusiness Workflows

 

eCommerce – further essential checkout fixes including: delivery address no longer validated if shipping is not required; when cancelling a checkout from the payment provider screen the error message now displays correctly; resolved issues with checkout in Google Chrome; additional validation is now done on email addresses and nickname to prompt users up-front to enter the correct details; prevented pre-caching of shopping baskets and the user checkout; resolved issues with the country selector on the addresses in checkout; fixed issues with Coupon Import; dashboard no longer includes incomplete and cancelled orders in sales reports

 

Education Profile – now prompts users to enter mandatory information

 

Form Styling – Auto Long Title is no longer an automation, now forces all field titles to list above the fields, ideal for narrow page designs

 

Forum – it is now possible to remove images from a forum post; it is also possible now to edit a forum thread containing images

 

Groups – improved navigation throughout groups; enabled links on the wall for web pages, Twitter users, emails and file transfers

 

JavaScript – more JavaScript separated into own .js files to improve performance and reduce number of issues on Chrome 3.0

 

Jobs Board – no longer errors out with ‘list index’ error

 

Login – resolve multi-zone login issue for sites on the same domain (i.e. different sub-domains)

 

Main Multimedia – if a Main Multimedia item has been selected then the title is now always displayed on the edit page (i.e. no longer looks as though nothing has been selected)

 

Media Library – Flash files now display correctly; always displays full section hierarchy on the Control Side

 

Media Uploads – file extensions now stripped out of titles automatically again (when specified)

 

Message Boards – no longer displaying .db file as an icon option

 

MP3 Player – fixed issues with the player breaking; now displays all user’s tracks reliably; fixed CDN integration

 

Newsletters – campaigns no longer error out in newsletter messages; confirmation notifications now work better, no longer as prone to be identified as spam

 

Prime Content Navigation – fixed link errors

 

Public Profile – My Groups now only displays groups (i.e. no longer lists out online directories and seminars)

 

Screen Names – Improved the internationalisation capabilities of screen names, added in some missing characters

 

Skins – Skin updates now display the ‘success’ message reliably

 

Smart Items – numerous fixes making this an essential update for anyone using Smart Items

 

SSL Encryption – fixed issues with incorrectly generated secure URLs

 

Text Item – improved layout when editing a text item; design styles now applied consistently

 

Video Player – reliably plays the selected video, no longer displays just the first video when hundreds of videos are listed

 

Video Player Design Element – no longer errors out when being added

 

WYSIWYG Editor – latest version of TinyMCE introduced to fix numerous formatting issues, particularly paragraph spacing; also fixed issue whereby WYSIWYG editor was not always appearing for users

 

YouTube Videos – updated to handle the updated YouTube video embed code
