As we have done for a few years now, we ran a roundtable at this year’s PPA Independent Publisher Conference. As usual it was very well attended and quite buzzy. We thought the AI session was excellent and informative and really appreciated the 90 second pitch we had the opportunity to deliver prior to the AI session.
The round table itself was repeated twice - with some great publishers represented by a very good set of media pros. It was great to meet with you all, and I look forward to continuing the conversation in the next weeks and months.
I referred to a number of references at the Roundtables, and was asked to share them, so it makes sense to post the key references here for the broader Affino and AI communities.
OK I had to post this first. Affino offers a great suite of AI services and we are partnering with multiple media groups on their AI journeys. We are great believers in experimentation, prototyping and learning on this journey together. We already have some great prototypes up and running and look forward to working with our community to bring these to their audiences.
Here’s a quick intro, and you can simply message me to have a discovery conversation for how best we can accelerate your AI initiatives.
Below is the flyer, and it’s a PDF up top, full of useful tips, and you can zoom in to see more details. I’ll include the two key reference images below.
We recently ran our annual Affino Innovation Briefing and I presented my predictions on AI in 2024, see the video here.
One of the most important things to note right now is that everyone is doing their own thing, and copying everyone else. This means that all the tools you might use are still in their early stages and feel half-formed. For that reason the Image above and Video below from Matt Wolfe are a really great resource for RIGHT NOW.
It will be different in a week’s time.
But meanwhile, if you want to create some useful images, for whatever purpose, then these ones are the ones to go for, and the grid above gives you an instant view of which does what, and how well. I strongly recommend you follow Matt to stay up up to date with what’s happening on AI.
Personally I love using MidJourney and Chat GPT / Dall-E. I find I have to use both because they are quite complimentary. Dall-E tends to be better at following my prompts but the output is somehow less artistic, whereas if I want realism and artistry then as a rule I will use MidJourney. Sometimes I just drop prompts in both to see which gives me the best starting point and then go from there. The image for this article was created from MidJourney with just a basic prompt and no refinement.
Futurepedia has a great reference for free AI Tools that you can try right now for all kinds of AI services. It is essential to get hands on experience with tools like these simply so that you can see how to supercharge many of the daily tasks you do ... and to see what's possible for automating your commercial workflows.
It's a great introduction to a dozen different types of AI Tools.
I have a few personal preferences for AI Tools, the following I find particularly useful for my personal day-to-day tasks:
ChatGPT inc Dall-E 3 for text and image generation and tons of other useful tasks
MidJourney for artistic image generation
Runway for converting images to video clips
Murf for text to voice, including using your personal voice
Speechify I'm using for AI avatar based video generation
All of these are evolving rapidly, many incredibly so, with new features and updates shipping regularly.
When it comes to AI, Just Do It!
Finally here are a few outstanding videos for getting a bit more into AI and the motivation of some of those behind creating the AI tech, as well as some reservations.
Each video gets progressively deeper into the realm of AI, but taken together are a great foundation as to where we are right now. It's also well worth following these channels for staying in touch with what's coming and some incredible interviews.
Well done if you worked your way through all of that. Let's carry on the conversation!
As a snapshot of where we are with AI, the above resources should be incredibly handy. Some of these I've reviewed multiple times and some of the tools I use on a daily basis.
We're always looking to get involved with exciting AI and media projects. Just get in touch.
