Fairly recent 2019 legislation has bound the UK to achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 - as applied specifically on this occasion to the nature of domestic housing and buildings.
This makes for increased reliance on green energy sources - and in particular the use of solar panels and evolving carbon capture technologies. Projected costs for adapting the typical building for Carbon Neutral Emissions, range from circa £2,500 to an eye-watering £50,000 per home.
A sizeable industry is evolving to meet those requirements and to provide materials, guidelines and consultancy in support of the initiative. And Unlock Net Zero aims to provide a best-fit line through all those complex challenges.
It describes its core mission as follows :
"We are a knowledge hub focusing on the practical reality of the transition to a net zero future. Net Zero refers to achieving a balance between the amount of Greenhouse Gas emissions produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. To achieve this requires large-scale and extensive innovation across the UK energy system. This will involve disruptive change across all sectors and industries.
Unlock net zero seeks to inform, educate, and connect people and organisations involved in adopting a net zero approach, identifying the technologies, infrastructure and behaviour change required."
Unlock Net Zero is a collaborative partnerships between long-standing Affino client Ocean Media Group, and the integrated communications consultancy ’Social’. In January 2021 Social launched ’Social Net Zero’ - a communications practice to help organisations establish and communicate their net zero ambitions and achievements.
The site is currently structured into : News & Views, Case Studies and Pilots, Resources, Finance, and Events. This should be an essential benchmark and guide to everything Net Zero, and we would expect a sizeable sector directory to evolve over time.
We of Team Affino of course wish Ocean Media Group and Social every success with this highly worthy collaboration.
